Donald Mineral Sands Project and Mineral Separation Plant
The Mineral Sands business consists of the Donald Mineral Sands mining project and Mineral Separation plant.
Donald Mineral Sands project comprises mineral sand exploration leases in the Murray Basin in North West Victoria. Mineral sands products produce iron, titanium, zirconium, silica, rare earths. This is possibly the largest zircon deposit in the world with equivalent large titanium deposits. On approximately 20% of this deposit we have completed mining, transportation and processing plans for the Donald Mineral Sands Project. Contained within this resource and within a boundary of composited drill-hole data is an Indicated and Inferred Resource of 477 Mt of Heavy Mineral @ 1.1% Zircon, 1.8% Ilmenite, 0.3% Rutile and 1.1% Leucoxene or 5.2 Mt Zircon, 8.5 Mt Ilmenite, 1.2 Mt Rutile and 5.4 Mt Leucoxene.
The intention is to process concentrates from the Donald Project through a mineral sand separation plant in China, producing zircon, high grade titanium, silica and ilmenite products for Aston’s internal use and for distribution into the wider Chinese market.
